Years ago we were at home to Man Utd and this little number 10 destroyed us, he ran our defence ragged and scored a couple and I remember thinking 'who the fuck is this? He's going to be huge!'
A swift check of the back page of The Hammer revealed that it was none other than...... Peter Davenport.

Some years ago I think it was Billy Bonds Testimonial George Best played for Fulham, it was the best individual performance I have seen at Upton Park.

Was going to mention Bale in that game where he scored at the end. There was an inevitability to it. I actually like him now that he has left Spurs as his continued success must KILL them.
Outside the usual suspects Jimmy Hasslebank was always one that scared me .... expected him to score every time he touched the ball.

Had seen Messi at Barca but basically went to the Arg v Croatia game just to see him.

Was always surprised after the Tbilisi game that we didn't try and sign some of those players. That said European players didn't move much those days and I think the Soviets wouldn't allow players under 28 I think to move. I blame Thatcher.
Was curious about Chivadze. He actually played his entire career 1974-87 with Tblisi and was later the Georgia manager. He is now coach of the Georgia u21's.

As individual performances go, Ryan Giggs cut us to shreds one game a long, long time ago (can't remember the score but they beat us) he literally beat 3 men every time he got the ball.

The one player who I got much more appreciation from seeing live was Van Persie. Not only was his technique and all round game outrageous, but fuck me the cunt was strong as an ox as well. Injury ravaged him in his 20's, or else I think we'd be talking about an all time great.

Dennis Bergkemp by a mile... 0-4 drubbing and he could have scored 8!

Not the best but Gareth Bale basically beat us on his own.

Gullit in that John Spencer game - think they won 3-1. He just had so much time on the ball, was class.

Beckham always played well against us and that lob over David James (think it was 5-3) was one of the best goals I've seen over there

Remember Gazza being untouchable one game. Couldn't believe how good he was. Head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch
